It’s Spring Fishing Time on Table Rock Lake!
It’s finally happening! The party is in full swing here on Table Rock Lake. There is a full moon going on and the fish are “bedding” all over the lake.
The smallmouth bass are biting very well in the lower area of the lake sometimes referred to as the dam area. The smallmouth are hitting swimbaits, Ned rigs, tubes and drop shots and you can expect a lot of action throughout the day.
On windy days make sure to hit points where the wind is pushing water against them. This is producing a mixed bag between smallmouth and spotted bass. Make sure to stay with lighter lines and a use fluorocarbon to keep the visibility to a minimum in this clear water. My recommendation is to use braid with an 8lb leader on a spinning rod. The braid does not have the bad characteristics of monofilament or fluorocarbon when casting all day.
There are a lot of beds in the James River arm as well. This is where you will find largemouth and spotted bass bedding in quiet pockets and in the backs of coves. Spring is a great time to catch a fish of a lifetime but more importantly it’s a great time to get out there and get lots of bites!
Finally, if you are going to be catching fish off the beds, please handle them gently and release them. This makes a huge difference in our future fishing here on Table Rock Lake.
